Condition · Nerve Pain

Postsurgical nerve pain.
A recognized syndrome with real treatment options.

Persistent pain in the distribution of a nerve injured or stretched during surgery is common after certain procedures — hernia repair, mastectomy, knee replacement, thoracotomy. It is treatable.

Who It's For

If this is you, we can help.

Burning, electric, or aching pain in the distribution of a peripheral nerve near a prior surgical site. Sometimes hypersensitivity to light touch. Persistent beyond the expected post-operative recovery window.

What to Expect

Your first visit.

Careful history of the surgery and post-operative course. Examination identifying the involved nerve and territory. Diagnostic ultrasound when indicated. A staged plan tailored to the specific nerve.

Treatment Options

Pharmacology, blocks, neuromodulation.

Pharmacotherapy for the neuropathic component. Diagnostic and therapeutic peripheral nerve blocks. For refractory cases, peripheral nerve stimulation is increasingly successful in this population — knee, shoulder, intercostal, ilioinguinal. We coordinate with the surgeon as appropriate.
